AG’s RE-SIGN USA EAGLE FLYHALF WILL MAGIE
AUSTIN, TX (July 28, 2020) Austin Gilgronis is excited to announce the re-signing of the 2020 MLR Virtual Champion, Will Magie. Eagle 507 has agreed to a two-year deal with the AG’s.
Magie hit two big kicks for the AG’s on debut to beat the Lone Star state-rival Sabercats in the Inaguaral Texas Cup. In April, Magie swapped kicking tee for a joystick and sweated out the club’s first championship in the MLR Virtual Competition and brought home the club’s second trophy in as many months.
“We had success with the virtual cup and Texas Cup,” says Magie. “We firmly believe we’re going to bring the MLR Shield to Austin next year,” says Will Magie.
Magie signed with the AG’s in March and was able to join the squad 8 days ahead of the Texas Cup. Magie came onto the Houston pitch in the 53rd minute as an injury substitute for Tongan-international and AG’s other debutante flyhalf, Kurt Morath. Magie drilled a tough conversion and sideline penalty goal to keep the Sabercats out of reach.
After season cancellation, Magie held up in Round Rock and worked on his golf game. He was twice featured on the RugbyWrapUp YouTube show, once from the fairway. In April, Magie helped the league reach over a million Twitch viewers and raise over $10,000 for Feeding America.
Magie then defeated 3x Super Bowl Champion New England Patriot Patrick Chung in a Twitch-streamed the NHL video game match. This offseason, Magie joined the Athlete Collective as a brand ambassador and player client for the rugby specific high-performance program.
Magie joined the AG’s after a successful string of seasons in the RFU Championship with the London Scottish and Ealing Trailfinders. Magie led Major League Rugby in conversions attempted and conversions mate in 2018 and started at flyhalf in the inaugural MLR Championship in 2018 with the Glendale Raptors. In 2016, Magie led the Denver Stampede to the first-ever American professional rugby champion PRO Rugby’s one and only season.
Magie returns to Austin to compete in a deep playmaker unit with Kurt Morath and Zinzan Elan-Puttick.
Welcome back, Money Magie!
