Austin Gilgronis signs Lindenwood Flanker Michael de Waal
Austin Gilgronis is excited to announce the signing of Michael de Waal, the 24-year-old flanker from Lindenwood University.
Growing up in South Africa, Michael attended Pretoria Boys High School, a breeding ground for rugby greats. In 2014, Michael moved to Stellenbosch in the Western Cape where he played for Marties Rugby Club. Michael was selected to play for Western Province U19, which saw the team open their 2014 Absa Provincial Under-19 campaign with a convincing 50-26 win over the Free State U19.
Michael decided to pursue his studies states side at Lindenwood University in Missouri, where he has played rugby for the last three years. De Waal was awarded Lindenwood’s MVP during the 2017/2018 and 2018/2019 rugby seasons.
Michael played a pivotal role which saw Lindenwood University win three USA Rugby College National 7’s Championships and two Collegiate Rugby Championship titles. De Waal is a two-time USA Rugby Collegiate All-American.
